Wraith III.
Oil leak from Rear Main Bearing
into Clutch pit on Wraith
III.

Based on the satisfactory test bed results obtained by the additional groove in the rear main bearing together with drain holes through the bearing cap, as shown on the attached scheme Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}458, we have instructed that this be incorporated on the 6 chassis which RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} is to build.

Will you please instruct for this to be detailed and included in the LOP. for the assembly of these cars.

Although we do not anticipate any trouble arising from the extra groove in the bearing, no prolonged endurance has been run with this scheme incorporated as yet.

Regarding the felt washers supplied on the early Wraith III units, these were not of such good quality as the felts supplied for the Bentley and 30 H.P. units and it should be ensured that we get the correct quality.

As an alternative second scheme in the event of trouble with the grooved rear bearing (Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}458) we should like you to instruct that the attached scheme Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}457 be detailed and issued experimentally.

The crank can be produced from an existing forging, but new end retaining covers are required.

A complete report is being issued from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/CTS.{C. Trot Salt - Carburation} regarding the various tests that have been made in the endeavour to cure this leak.
