distance of about 4" and the bolt hole for the body which we
propose to drill ourselves will be as near to the frame as
possible so as to give a good control to the runner, preventing
it from turning over. This overcomes objections 1, 2, and 3.
(b) With reference to the twisting of the frame we pro-
pose fitting a cross member just behind the battery box right
opposite bracket No.4. from the dash. This cross member will
prevent the frame twisting and will serve as a support for the
battery box which we understand is at present liable to collapse.
(c) With reference to the twisting of the frame at
bracket No.2. from the dash we suggest that there is no reason
why a body cross member could not be placed at this point in
practically every car, and we suggest that RR. should recommend
this to coachbuilders.

The tests on the 40/50 as shewn sketch No.2.
seem to demonstrate that the 40/50 frame and method of attaching
the body to it is much more rigid than the Goshawk at present.
With reference to our scheme for isolating the body
on sheet metal body stiffeners we shall go into the question of
providing adequate cross members for the body when using this
scheme and will take the matter up with Messrs. Barker's as soon
as we have made some designs for the purpose, in fact we propose
designing the whole of the ironing of the body and shall endeavour
to use sheet metal in every case. Since however this matter
is highly experimental, and we must do something to production
cars we shall go along with the improved body bracket scheme as
soon as possible, and will also continue experiments with tie-bars
