X.2676.-SPECIAL LUCAS BATTERY.

On June 5th last Messrs. Lucas dispatched to us a battery which they had specially made to our specification for experimental purposes. This battery, presumably, duly arrived at the Stores, but we received no intimation of the receipt of this. It now appears that this battery has been sent away in mistake for another battery which is still in the Stores. This would appear to be rather a serious mistake. Someone has given instructions for this battery to be dispatched without having first ascertained the reason of its being there. The battery was specially made by Messrs. Lucas who submitted it to us for competition with our standard, and it is very unfair to that firm that this battery should have been sent away in this manner. We ought to do all possible to recover it from those to whom it was sent and send them instead the right battery which had been delivered to the Stores for the purpose.

If this cannot be recovered Messrs. Lucas should be written to and have the matter explained to them so that they may, if they so desire, have an opportunity of submitting to us another special battery of this type.
