COPY OF LETTER RECEIVED FROM:- MESSRS. G.A. VANDERVELL & CO LTD. WARPLE WAY, ACTON VALE, LONDON. W. ref. EL/DM. {D. Munro} 15th July, 1921. Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd., Nightingale Road, Derby. X.4359V. X.4342V. Dear Sirs, Re Order No. 5533 dated 4.7.21. In reply to your letter of the 13th inst., (reference Wd {Mr Wood / Mr Whitehead} 8/NJ13721) we regret that we made a slight error in stating a 5" starter, and confirm that your order reads one special C.A.V. 5" dynamo, and one special "SC" type starter motor. We have confined ourselves throughout in the design of both the starter and dynamo to your specific requirements, and as far as we can see both these machines are absolutely in order both mechanically and electrically. We have all the information required, and at the present time we are awaiting such parts from your goodselves in order that we may complete the sample machines under discussion. Dynamo description. This will be of the 4 pole, three brush, self-regulating type, 5" diameter outside yoke. Electrically this will fulfil the requirements of your specification No. X.4359, and mechanically this conforms with your requirements as detailed under your letters ref. Da {Bernard Day - Chassis Design} /ThrCB. Certain parts of this dynamo are being supplied by your goodselves. Starter Motor description. This is a 4 pole type, series parallel winding. The diameter outside the yoke is 4 3/4". Electrically this conforms with the figures given in your correspondence under ref. EFC. {E. Fowler Clarke - Electrical Engineer} Mechanically it is to your requirements under your letters ref. Da {Bernard Day - Chassis Design} /Thr.CB. You are supplying us with various parts of this starter. As previously stated the whole of the details in connection with the two sample machines are settled, and it simply remains for us to now let you have these for test at the earliest possible moment.
