Mr. W. Cowen,
Rolls-Royce, Ltd.,
London, W-1.

Dear Sir:

Re: 69-LC. Mr. Lewis.

We are in receipt of your letter of May 26th regarding the steering which recently seized up on this car.

We should like to point out that there was no possibility of the steering box running short of oil, as the trouble occurred within two weeks of taking delivery of the car, previous to which the box was well lubricated. We can assure you that the steering column has not been changed and no alterations whatever have been made to the dashboard, neither of which were strained in fitting the body.

We agree with you that it does seem strange that the chassis should go through its final test without trouble, but there is no doubt had the test been continued for an additional 200 miles the trouble would have developed. Of course, we know the test has to be brought to a close sooner or later, and we run into the same trouble ourselves.

The owner of this car, Mr. Lewis, has also been complaining of a rumble in the engine which was there when we made delivery, but was not noticed by the owner although it was distinctly heard by our man who drove the car part of the way. Just what this will prove to be, we do not know but will write you giving full details should the car be returned to us.

Yours very truly,

ROLLS-ROYCE OF AMERICA, INC.,

E. {Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} W. Caswell.
Maintenance Manager.
