1139 To HPS{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr}/W.Bell. from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell} Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell}8/AP.3.1.38 TESTS OF BYE-PASS OIL FILTERS. Will you please arrange your oil pump test rig to compare the following bye-pass oil filters which we will supply. (a) 'Luber-Finer' (b) 'General' (c) 'A.C.' (d) 'Smith' Tapping to be taken off the oil pump delivery pipe which is controlled to 30 lbs/sq.in. by relief valve or tap. Excess oil from the delivery pipe and the flow from the filter to return to the tank from which the suction oil is taken. The suction pipe to be taken from the base of the tank in order to subject the filter to all the dirt that the oil contains. We will supply the dirty oil and would say that 2 gallons be put in the tank for the filter to work on. Samples to be taken say every half hour from the tank and bottled, likewise a register by placing a drop of oil on blotting paper, the running time being recorded. The rig to be run until the 2 gallons are not getting any cleaner or the filter ceases delivery. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell} | ||
