-5- contd. results in much better low speed sparking without increasing the maximum energy of spark at the higher speeds. Owing to the fact that there has been some trouble on experimental cars with the platinum points on standard EW6 magnetos, these EW6A magnetos are fitted, at Messrs.Norths own recommendation, with contact breaker covers ventilated in such a way as to make, which we confirm, no difference in the amount of noise which emanates from the contact breaker. They have all along maintained that any trouble with the platinum points is due to the presence of hydro-carbon vapours and can, they say, speaking from their own experience, be overcome by thus providing ventilation. To us however, that has not appeared to be proved to be the right explanation of the contact point trouble which we have observed in one or two cases on experimental cars. Curiously enough we do not know of any similar trouble reported from production or while in service. EFC. | ||
