Referring to By/C26/G23.4.26, we are this morning in receipt of a telephone message from the Dunlop Co., Fort Dunlop, giving us the report of their Wheel Works regarding our complaint. The report is as follows:- "We would say with regard to the type of wheels in "question that it is extremely difficult to attain the "required dish with our present tools. "We should be pleased if you would inform R.R. "that in the type of wheel which embodies straight "spokes we depress the shell to receive the head of the "inner spoke and it is necessary in order to avoid "bending of the wires in building the wheel that the "depressions are formed in a jig, the spoke holes are "also drilled in a more or less elaborate jig and while "we are equipped for S/S wheels, we have not yet put in "hand the necessary expensive tackle for wellbase rims. "Upon receipt of definite instructions to proceed "with wheels with wellbase rims, we will have the "necessary parts made, but if there is any doubt as to "their adoption of wheels of this type, we do not feel "justified in going to the expense of these tools. "We think that if the matter is put to R.R. in this "way they will appreciate our difficulty." We were informed that Col.Matthew is at the Wheel Works Coventry today and we have asked Fort Dunlop to communicate with him and ask him to ring us up this afternoon, when the matter can be dealt with further.
