Cold starting issues with a 'Startex' carburetter at 6°F.

| -4- COLD STARTING. An attempt was made to start the car (fitted with a 'Startex' carburetter) at 6°F.{Mr Friese} The engine fired regularly on one cylinder but could not be persuaded to run. The ignition was thoroughly checked over but no improvement was obtained. A wide range of mixture strengths were tried with the Startex carburetter and the trouble appears to be as follows - If the mixture strength is correct at the middle cylinders, the end cylinders are too weak and the engine will not run. If the mixture is now strengtheded up to satisfy the end cylinders, these will fire, but the middle cylinders become swamped with petrol. As soon as 7.B.V. again becomes available it is proposed to carry out tests to determine whether or not the induction pipe is at fault, and if not what can be done to improve matters, starting with less extreme temperatures.
