EXPERIMENTAL DEPARTMENT. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/CTS.{C. Trot Salt - Carburation}19/JH. 11th October, 1938. 1020a. High Duty Alloys Ltd., Trading Estate, Slough, Bucks. For the attention of Mr. Richards. Dear Sirs, We have recently received a report, that difficulty is being experienced in obtaining the required Brinell hardness, on bearings in connection with the Leyland Cub. The Leyland 8 litre, and certain types of A.E.C. bearings. We realise that we may be a little premature in asking for information from you concerning these particular batches of bearings. It is a fact however, that we are producing AC.9 bearings in our own factory without any trouble. It would seem therefore, that something might be gained, if we were to line up the combined methods of manufacture between your goodselves and Wellworthy, against our own methods from start to finish. This is not necessarily a suggestion to be regarded as something we consider ought to take place, but first an idea that might be worth considering. Mr. Howlett recently expressed the wish that Wellworthy should be allowed to sort out their own problems. The writer wishes to determine, first, whether the present trouble (if any) with Leyland and A.E.C. etc. is your problem and if so can we be of any assistance. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LTD. | ||
