Dear Mr. Hives,

A few days' ago I sent you particulars of a young fellow named Goodall, whom a friend of mine was anxious to get into the firm, if possible.

I know you are very busy and these requests are a nuisance, but as the boy's father is anxious to get him something to do soon, could you please let me know if there are any possibilities of anything turning up at Derby for him. A line from you either one way or the other will enable me to give the boy's father some decision.
