To Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}: x3117 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Bwg.{J. C. Bowring}11/KW.24.10.34. Ph.II D.W.S. Jacks. We have tested a set of modified Jacks on a chassis loaned by the Test Dept. The car was jacked up on Pilstern Hill and severely rocked, but this had no ill effect on the Jacks. The main improvements of this modified type over present standard are :- (1) They weigh 48 lbs. 8 ozs. compared with 57 lbs. 6 ozs. standard - a saving of approx. 15%. (2) They have approx. 1" higher lift than standard. (3) The main operating shaft has now a right and a left hand thread, giving an easier action than the present type which has a straight forward right hand thread. ? { We are sending through a Standardisation Sheet for this type to be fitted in the immediate future. With regard to 20/25 Jacks, we have a modified set to test, but are still awaiting a set of brackets to suit the front Jack, as the original brackets supplied by D.W.S. collapsed under the weight of the car.
