Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} 120H To all Officials. and Superintendents. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}1/T.23.3.39. Telephone Line to Hucknall. Some time ago we installed a private telephone line to Hucknall. This was done not only as an economy, but also so as to provide a more convenient system of communication. We now find that the line is engaged for practically the whole of the day, and as a consequence it is seldom that one can put through a call immediately, but has to wait a considerable time before the line is clear. This state of affairs of course, nullifies the fundamental principle of the arrangement, and I should be glad if you would instruct the members of your department to limit their conversations between Hucknall and Derby as far as is possible, and to bear in mind that other people are requiring the line, possibly on urgent matters.
