TURNING CIRCLES. X.980

Could you send us some fairly exact figures of the turning circles that are actually being obtained on the 40/50 long chassis. In your memo. HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}1/LG26.10.23. you say these circles are 47 ft. L.H. and 50 ft. R.H., but on the front axle drawing the maximum locks are given as 38° L.H. and 31° R.H., and these correspond by geometry to turning circles of respectively 48 ft. and 57 ft.

On the other hand on the coachbuilders drawing the locks are given as 41° L.H. and 33° R.H., corresponding to turning circles of 45¼ ft. and 53¼ ft. respectively. From this it will be seen that there is some little doubt as to what is actually obtained and if you could send us some fairly accurate figures they would be most useful in comparing them with what we expect to get on EAC.111. We should like to know, not only the turning circle but if possible the locks which produce that turning circle.
