BIRMINGHAM.

For the attention of J.S.Irving, Esq.

Dear Sirs,

We have an experimental Bentley, B.56.BN{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington}, on the rear axle of which we would like to fit a pair of 2.L.S. brakes. This car is fitted with the brakes shown on G.CD.49 (enclosed) further details of which are shown on N.Sch.5178. These brakes are Girling type brakes and there should be little difficulty in fitting your assembly as the operation is the same.

On future brakes we are standardising the T section shoe GB.3748 and we would like to use the same rolled section if at any time we standardised your brake. The profile would be different. The drum this shoe is intended to work in is 12 1/4" dia. B.56.BN{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington} is at present fitted with 12" dia. drums.

We generally use brake linings 5/16" thick on Bentley, but for the purposes of this experiment we would be willing to try thinner linings if they enabled us to continue to use the 12" dia. drums now on the car.

We are working out a programme for the brakes on various chassis and the 2.L.S. brake might be useful to us, if we had enough experience with it to be sure it would work satisfactorily. We therefore want to try it as soon as possible.

Will you say what expense we are likely to incur in fitting up B.56.BN.{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington}

Yours faithfully,

for ROLLS-ROYCE LTD.
