X.1402. ----- We are sending you herewith a copy of Mr. Gardner's report Gr{George Ratcliffe} 1 K 12-31-19 on Generators of American manufacture. This is of the nature of a survey of the whole position regarding the manufacture and characteristics of American productions of this nature. We are in agreement with practically all which is stated in this note but it is doubtful if the tentative specification on pp. 3 & 4 can be obtained to the letter in one machine. We notice that a combination of the constant voltage and constant current vibrator regulator control is put forward as being the nearest approach to the ideal system, and we are interested to know that we shall shortly have apparatus arranged on this system, on which to carry out tests. So far, we have not had time to do much experimental work on the vibrator control, but we hope in the near future to thoroughly investigate this in all its aspects, as the probability is that we shall ultimately use this system.
