of view, to let each customer choose his own size of master cylinder in view of their desire for as much standardisation as possible. It was finally agreed to shelve the question of the final master cylinder installation, as all our tests could be done with the 1" master cylinder of which a drawing had already been sent to us.

Our reason for wishing to have the minimum possible size of master cylinder was to keep the pedal bearing loads a minimum figure. At the same time we realise that this will lengthen the cylinder appreciably and so might make it again more difficult to install because of the presence of the steering box.

Mr. Parnell emphasised their difficulties in getting anything drawn, and said that at the moment they cannot make anything for us. In addition the final designs for many of the parts have not yet been drawn.

(4) Test of Humber car with 2 leading shoe brakes.

Mr. Parnell had brought over the Humber car of which Mr. Gates fitted with the 2 leading shoe brakes, using drums 11" dia. and shoes 1¾" wide as proposed for our installation. This was tried by Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} and Ev{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}/DB.{Donald Bastow - Suspensions}
Mr. Parnell pointed out that this was a makeshift scheme using 8 bisectors, which probably introduced a lot of sponge and with this reservation the brakes were certainly acceptable from the point of view of power and lightness of pedal load, as far as could be seen from personal impressions.
