[Handwritten:] X4219 X4256 X3522 X4252 I think the scheme of buying machines and making all our back axle bevels absolutely correct on the face of the figures given, and quite a wise move. The chasses (two) that we had in the south of France were so good that we did not know output was so held up for quiet axles. The design of the axle is the best I know of for silence, and when once right should remain so - aluminium rigid box, (non-sonorous) nose bearing (roller) to pinion. The worst thing upon my chassis (4.Gos:) was the dynamo drive when the engine was hot, and slow-down light running. This we have dealt with on 7.Gos: by adding the fan drive to the dynamo which I understand is a complete cure. We have many other improvements which promised well in first models, and are now being proved. In future I may ask to alter the track 2" wider. Messrs Barker's say to Mr. Evernden probably as soon as we put on side levers, central ones will be demanded, which they (Barker's) so much prefer for their construction, especially on Goshawks. I am proposing at a very early date to try the brake lever on the driver's side of the change speed, to give more room to the passenger; I want this on the next experimental chassis for my test.
