FORT DUNLOP ERDINGTON BIRMINGHAM Messrs.Rolls-Royce Ltd., DERBY. 6th June 1935. File For the attention of Mr.Bowering. Dear Sirs, New type Jack for Bentley Chasses. Handwritten notes in left margin: Swivel Jacking pad } Nickel Plated Screw f stop Checkered Base. Enamel finish Nickel socket Polished Ram. Socket & Toe more unrestrained We have pleasure in sending you under separate cover a revised sample Jack. The gear wheels have been made from new patterns and we trust you will agree that the smooth running is at least equal to the American sample. It has been necessary to cast them in Millenite to save time but it is our intention to use Malleable iron on production. } Malleable iron The screws have been case hardened and temper-ed{J. L. Edwards}, and we trust this will overcome previous troubles. The Jack has also been fitted with a rotatable top. } Brinell 400 The Jack body is the same height as previously as we have not had time to get/a new body casing. The screws, however, have been shortened so that the extended height of the sample is to the proposed altered dimensions. With regard to the handle socket, we are sending two handles and two pinions. (a) Bayonet type with the clearance reduced to the minimum amount permissible for casting limits. (b) Spring type, which has the advantage of prevent-ing the handle being inadvertently withdrawn. } to be incorporated (The pinions are interchangeable on the Jack by means of the small grub screw.) -1- | ||
