1305 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Clm.{D. D. Clapham}10/JH. 6th. April. 1940. Toledo Woodhead Springs Ltd., Toledo Spring Works, SHEFFIELD.1. For the attention of Mr. Frank Woodhead. Dear Sirs, We thank you for yours of March 28th. We note that you have been unable to obtain any creaks from the Spauldite interleaving. We have had three complaints of creaks during the past few months and in each case investigation has proved that the interleaving was worn out allowing metal to metal contact. We therefore think that the original complaints were due to the same trouble. The reason why metal to metal contact was not then suspected was the small mileage which had been covered by the interleaving. We believe you carried out some tests on the life of several interleavings which showed that the life of Spaldite was about four times that of the American material. Our experience is that they have much the same life, and only about 6 - 8,000 miles at that. We have a complaint to make with regard to thatvar-iation in static deflection of similar springs. Our figures suggest that there is a variation between individual springs of more than 10%. The writer would like to come over with Mr. Clapham on Thursday or Friday next week, April 11th. or 12th. to discuss the matter of spring tolerances, and Cont'd.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} | ||
