To B.J. from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} ROAD SPRINGS ON CARS FITTED WITH FRONT WHEEL BRAKES. Referring to our conversation on the telephone with you today. We are sending two men to Cricklewood in order to change the axle and springs from the Cabriolet car on to the London Trials Landaulet car. To do this, it will mean altering the position of the bracket at the rear end of the front springs on the Landaulet. This is necessary owing to the springs used in conjunction with front wheel brakes being 1½" longer. The front spring strengths of the Cabriolet and the Trials Landaulet are not the same - the Trials Landaulet has stiffer springs in front owing to there being more weight on the front axle. We therefore propose sending a pair of springs 12½% stiffer than those at present on the Trials Landaulet. This will mean, when the car is ready for test, it will be identical to a customers car which has been sent in to have the brakes fitted. The brakes, of course, will not be in operation. We are not making arrangements for a double change i.e. for the axle and springs off the G Landaulet to be put on to the Cabriolet - to do this would entail altering the position of the rear spring bracket on that car. From your memos. we do not understand that it is necessary to do this. We have instructed our men to deliver the Trials Landaulet car fitted with the front brake axle and springs to your House at Gerrards Cross on Monday morning at 8 a.m. | ||
