What Oil Authorities Say—
“OIL NEVER WEARS OUT”

REFERENCE: KEMPE'S ENGINEER'S YEAR-BOOK 1936. SECTION VI. PART II under LUBRICATING OILS AND LUBRICATION; PAGE 197: “Among oils of the same type, base and viscosity, the colour may usually be taken as an indication of the degree to which the oil has been refined, a lighter colour indicating more efficient refining...” PAGE 202: “When oil is properly filtered it can be used indefinitely without losing any of its lubricating qualities...”

“Oil does not wear out mechanically. It may be used over and over again after re-claiming (Re-refining)”: United States Bureau of Standards, Bulletin No. 223.

HOW LONG WILL AN OIL LAST? There can be no definite answer to this question as the life of a high grade of oil is limited only by the impurities it picks up, such as dust, water, unburnt fuel or carbon from the combustion of the fuel.” (Statement by The Asiatic Petroleum Co., (P.I.) Ltd., in a recent publication).

“Oil does not wear out; rather it is robbed of its lubricating properties by foreign substances. To-day it is possible to salvage the lubricating properties of oil once used by the elimination of accumulated foreign substances”: Standard Oil Company of New York.

The Texas Company in its publication, “LUBRICATION”; “It is safe to say that a lubricant can only be as effective as its purity.”

“Cleansing Lubricants are accepted as one of the outstanding factors in the maintenance of effective lubrication.”

“In service lubricating oils must be kept up to an approximate standard of purity.”

“The Vacuum Oil Company in its marine publication, “THE COMPASS,” says: “Scale and rust, metal particles abraded from the bearings, dirt and many foreign substances tend to accumulate in the oil until it becomes a carrier of destructive cutting agents and of little or no value as a lubricant. The service that a given drop of oil can render depends upon its quality and the treatment that it receives—where effective means of purification are employed, these oils are practically indestructible.”

The Standard Oil Company of New York says in its house organ, “OIL POWER”; “And so we see that oil really does not wear out, rather, it is robbed of its lubricating properties by foreign substances.”

“Poorly refined oil causes carbon on the piston rings and sludge in the crankcase. This leads to stuck piston rings, overheated valves, excessive piston wear and loss of compression. Excessive sludge in the crankcase may mean chocked filters or oilways with the result that a bearing may be starved of oil and fail without any warning.” (Statement by The Asiatic Petroleum Co., (P.I.) Ltd., in a recent publication.)

COMPARE FILTERS AND REFINERS—LUBER-FINER is a Refiner and not a filter.

Lubricating Oils played a most important part in the warfare of 1914-1918. It became necessary to economize in the use of Oil. Used Oils were saved, re-refined, and used over again.
