X.3563. RE THERMOMETERS. X.3678.

According to the conference at Derby thermostats and also thermometers are to be fitted to the same car. I want it to be distinctly understood that the thermometers have not been reliable or convenient fittings, and the thermostats replace them. Packard and some other American cars are fitted with thermostats only, trusting to the drivers to take care about freezing in cold weather as they have to do when the engine is not running.

Would you kindly wire to OY., (as we have done to Derby) as follows:-

"WHEN THERMOSTATS ARE FITTED THERMOMETERS ARE NOT TO BE STANDARD FITTING. THIS WILL BE IN LINE WITH PACKARD AND OTHERS, AND THE EXTRA COMPLICATION MUST BE AVOIDED."
