REPORT ON NITR-D ALLOY WATER PUMP SPINDLE x7150

A nitro alloy spindle was fitted in the water pump on 28-EX and has since ran 11,818 miles and 90 1/4 hrs. on the test bed. It was arranged not to lubricate this spindle throughout the test.

The spindle apart from an uneven surface is in a good condition, the deepest uneven portion shows .0025" wear. There is no sign of the material cutting up, the surface being smooth and polished. This material is now on production, but is being lubricated in the usual way. We do not advocate leaving the lubrication off, the above test was to determine the condition of a sparsely lubricated spindle.
