We duly acknowledge receipt of your communication of the 5th, and with regard to the pistons .010" oversize, these are well in hand and we hope to let you have delivery in the course of the next few days. We much appreciate your having gone so carefully into the suggestion we made to you over the telephone concerning the clearance between the connecting rod small end and the gudgeon pin bosses, and there is very little doubt in our mind that the permissible expansions are such as to more than absorb the minimum clearance of .005" which the drawing dimensions allow. We do not think that the gudgeon pin bosses would reach 200° C., but our calculations show that this would not be necessary, and temperatures of 150° C. for the small end and the bosses would give an interference fit, assuming everything is perfectly alignable and that the expansion movements take place on a strictly linear basis, which is doubtful.
