Re Spring Bushes

I do not think that this is the correct explanation.

It was not this slack, which I particularly desire shall be maintained,

If it had anything to do with the spring shackles, which I doubt, it would be end-play not diametrical fit.

Why should our people say that it was the body that made the noise, unless they found that it was so?
