1184 1091 To Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} from Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} 10/BA.4.1.40. Automatic Chassis Lubrication. The Rover central chassis lubrication is operated by Induction Pipe depression. Every time the throttle is closed a small quantity of oil is released into the system. The disadvantages are as follows:- (1) The maximum amount of lubrication is obtained during town running, the minimum when touring. This is the reverse of what is desirable. (2) In order to overcome defect (1), the valve is set to supply an excessive quantity of oil, hence the state of my drive at Park Leys. (3) The system can only work at low pressure. In consequence the oil often fails to penetrate where required. We fitted the system up on Wor{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}'s 25/30. It worked quite well, but the car was always dripping oil. We have a fully automatic system, that does not suffer from the Rover defects, schemed for the senior range of rationalised cars. It will be proceeded with when we have capacity to deal with it. ----------------- Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} | ||
