STIFFNESS OF PISTONS

When we were in trouble with the Peregrine piston tightening up, we started to some tests to ascertain if the Peregrine piston was very much more rigid than the 25 HP. or the 40/50, and the attached print shows the results obtained.

Since this time we have increased the clearance of the Peregrine piston slightly and have not had very much more trouble. The results seem to show, however, that the Peregrine is definitely somewhat stiffer than the other pistons relatively, particularly at the top of the skirt where the gudgeon pin exerts the major influence on it, and we think it is well worth trying out something rather more flexible. We should be glad to have particulars of anything you propose to instruct.
