By now Honeyman will have received my last letter telling him there is side play slack. Your tester stated it was to allow for heat distortion - on the spot, he obviously could not ascribe it to the reason you give; nor could you. Really Mr.Cowen, the reason is obvious and on the spot even you who never admit anything detrimental to the wonderful RR marque would have to admit it. It is not RR workmanship or RR quality.

In reply to your last paragraph, the Bentley engine also has flexible mountings and gets hot - but has no play in the controls.

In conclusion - there is no greater ally to RR than I - and you know it - but being so good an ally I am the more true a one by criticising when necessary. The whole point is: can you oblige me by supplying me with the old RR quality instruments?
