Handwritten: J Barclay file 104 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/RH.{R. Hollingworth}4. 7.12.40. Your ref: JDB/MRW. Jack Barclay Esq., 12-13 St.{Capt. P. R. Strong} George Street, Hanover Square, LONDON.W.1. Dear Barclay, Thank you for your letter of December 2nd. In view of what you say about the suspension on your car, we are arranging to let Cricklewood have the necessary parts to rectify the trouble. With regard to the maximum speed of your car, the engine was passed off test at Derby giving the correct horse-power. If your car is heavier or has a greater wind resistance than the standard saloon, then this may affect the top speed and we can do nothing about it. It is possible to fit a special steering column to your car having hand ignition advanced levers, but no parts are available and, therefore, the changeover is not feasible. When you realise that we are only able to do 10% of the experimental work on motor cars we were doing before the war, you will appreciate that we have sacrificed one of our most valuable assets in order to increase the war effort and that under the conditions we can hardly be expected to function as a service station. Anyhow, we can assure you that Hythe will deal with your complaint. Yours sincerely, | ||
