The modifications to the R.R. petrol pump have just been issued to the Experimental Dept., and we hope to have a car running with this modified pump in a short time. Complete tests have been carried out on the present pump which shews that it will deliver the required amount of petrol without difficulty. Other makes of cars have been using a similar pump for a number of years now, and we find that although this type of pump is looked upon as a definite improvement over the autovac which we are still using, it is by no means free from trouble. The variations in petrol pressure has caused complaints of high petrol consumption on certain cars; fabrics are not entirely free from trouble. Firms who have been using the mechanical pump are now testing out the electrical scheme. In our opinion it is more useful for us to be running one of the alternative electrical scheme on the 25 HP. where we cannot at the moment fit the R.R. mechanical pump, than it is to stick to the autovac which we want to get away from as soon as possible.
