361 Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} --- Hdl/IB.20.12.38. ------------- re CHASSIS NO. 3-BT{Capt. J. S. Burt - Engineer}-81. SIR HERBERT SMITH, BT.{Capt. J. S. Burt - Engineer} -------------------- The above customer owns 3-AZ-168, which is a Sports Sedanca de Ville, and 3-BT{Capt. J. S. Burt - Engineer}-81 Sedanca Coupe, and the latter car has been very troublesome because the Owner is continually complaining of the steering, the shivering, and body dithering etc. We have had the car back to the Works on several occasions, and briefly, the following work has been carried out:- Firstly, We rather felt that the Owner's complaint was the body movement in relation to the chassis, and arrangements were made for this car to go to Messrs. Gurney Nutting, and they endeavoured as this was a drop head Coupe body with extremely wide doors, to make the body more rigid to the chassis, and upon its return we felt that it was a definite improvement, at least 60%. The Owner again complained to one of our London drivers, and they came to the conclusion that the springing now was the cause for complaint. The car was again returned to the Works, and as this car is usually driven very lightly loaded, we decided to fit a very weak pair of rear springs and alter the shock absorbers. The car was again returned to the Owner, and also a suggestion was made that he should run the tyre pressures at 30 lbs., but unfortunately, he would not agree with us and insisted on running with the pressures at 35 lbs. We again had the car back to the Works to try and satisfy this Owner, and as a more or less last resource we fitted two low rated rear springs, and unfortunately, the car still does not satisfy him, and has once more been returned to us. - contd - | ||
