should be tried, but the collars should be attached as in fig. 4.

The Rotherham lubricator with the flap lid{A. J. Lidsey} should be replaced by an oiler with a twist lid{A. J. Lidsey} and eccentric hole, and should have a spring to keep it closed, and perhaps a bayonet joint for the purpose of fixing it in the open position.

Mr. Royce would like you, if possible, to prevent the intermediate ball pad piece from turning by some means other than the split pin at present used, which will not allow the oil to leak away except by passing the ball.

Would you kindly instruct the shock damper to be tested with the alterations above incorporated, asking Mr. Hives to report on the relative effectiveness of oil and grease lubrication, in accordance with Mr. Royce's wishes.
