Dear Sirs, The writer would like to express his thanks to you both for your letter of the 14th instant and the coil and contact breaker unit. These latter items will be of considerable assistance to us in determining whether our ideas on the spark marking of record paper are feasible for permanent use on our test equipment. We are glad to have your remarks on your own experiences and agree with you that unless the spark can be made to give a clear legible record such a system should not be adopted merely because it is in the nature of a scientific novelty or toy. We note that you have recorded time by ink marking on paper where the pen was moved by a magnet operating from the 50/ cycle A.C. mains, and we consider that if the spark idea proves to be a failure some similar apparatus can be made by which the pen could be oscillated mechanically with a drive from a miniature synchronous motor. We will keep you posted as to the results of our experiments. Referring now to the last paragraph of your letter, we must express our great regret that the error in the stencilling of the RU and RL linings caused you so much inconvenience, and we realise might have resulted in serious consequences if you had not fortunately detected it in time. We have already enquired into this error without any success in discovering how it occurred, and as we are extremely anxious to prevent a recurrence in the future, we should be glad to have information enabling us to trace the particular consignments from which these linings were taken. No doubt your records will disclose the approximate date of delivery. Yours faithfully, FERODO LIMITED, W.E.Shilton Manager, Technical Department. | ||
