FGE/H YOURS HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/RM{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}3/MJ. 11 April 1930 Messrs. Rolls Royce Ltd., Derby. Dear Sirs, For attention of Mr. W.A. Robotham. With reference to your letter of the 8th inst. addressed to our London Office; the liquid used in the six sample thermostats, recently delivered, is Acetone. If greater power is required at a given temperature it would be possible to obtain a little more by employing a liquid of lower boiling point, but we are afraid this would not give an increase of 25%. The practical solution of this is to use a larger size of bellows. We can supply an instrument which is 10 m/m.{Mr Moon / Mr Moore} larger in diameter and which develops a greater thrust than the type you now have, but we have found in practice that the smaller instrument develops more than ample power for the average shutter. Yours faithfully, S. SMITH & SONS (MOTOR ACCESSORIES) LTD. F.S.Sedgefield Midland Engineer. | ||
