Re Clutch (Instruction Book)

R.{Sir Henry Royce} 22-7-14.

In reply to R11/P 20.7.14. I have never found it necessary or desirable to wash out the Clutch with paraffin and am also of the opinion that it would be inclined to make the clutch harsh in action.
My experience also confirms the statement that the clutch will not disengage properly when an excess of oil is injected, so causing difficulty in engaging or changing gears.
I have not had trouble with clutch slipping due to excessive oil, I think the former trouble would come before the latter and would compel one to remove the excess oil.
With reference to the kind of oil to use, I have had good results with both engine and gear oil and have no objection to either. Engine oil is cleaner to handle and is not so objectionable if it should get thrown out of the clutch.
