- 2 - Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd With regard to (b) we have been experimenting with a number of greases and such experiments are still continuing. At the moment we have obtained the best results with a special grease supplied by Shell-Mex and we shall be pleased to supply you with further spindles packed with this type of grease if you so desire. We would also mention that the original type of Spindle, I.132948C has now been superseded by a spindle of the dimensions shown on drawing 401197 enclosed. The dimensions of the spindle have been altered somewhat, but the same cages and balls and felt seals are fitted. The outer ring is similar except that instead of the groove round the periphery, there is a 3/16" hole; this takes a locating setscrew and this screw has a 1/32" hole through it - the object being to allow air to escape so as to equalise the pressure, as it was thought that pressure built up inside whilst the bearing was hot, thus causing the grease to exude. If necessary, of course, further lubricant could be added through the hole in the outside diameter, although this rather does away with the principle of this bearing. Whilst results so far have not been very encouraging, we believe that attention to the two points mentioned above will improve the job considerably and we shall be pleased to hear that you are prepared to continue your experiments. Yours faithfully, THE SKEFKO BALL BEARING CO. LTD. Encl. Print P.25070 Drg. 401197 WMS | ||
