GOSHAWK 11. STRONGER VALVE TAPPET SPRINGS. X.4226. We send you herewith drawing No.Lec.1534 shewing a stronger valve tappet spring which is only intended for experimental use in conjunction with the double valve springs to raise the speed of the engine still higher. For the purpose of standardisation Mr. Royce would like you to try a spring a gauge smaller namely, 14 S.W.G. (.080). This spring could have eleven working coils; with loads of 18.75 in position, and 24.02 lbs. valve open, corresponding stresses 62,300, and 80,000 per sq. in., the mean radius would be .335". It is very possible we should like to standardise this latter spring in conjunction with the double valve springs. E. {Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} | ||
