15th November, 1938.

British Filters Ltd.,
Aircraft House,
MARKET HARBOROUGH.

(For the attention of Mr. G.C. Worth.)

Dear Sirs,

Thank you for your letter of the 14th November. We have no objection to letting you have a photograph showing one of your filters fitted to our engine, but must ask you not to make use of this for publicity purposes, also, not to use the Rolls-Royce name in your leaflet.

We note you are arranging a reproduction so that it will not be apparent that the engine is a Rolls-Royce.

We will let you have a brief report of the performance of the filter on our French test when we have completed the examination of the engine which is now stripped. It appears, however, that the oil started to become seriously discoloured after about 7,000 miles. At 10,000 miles the cartridge was changed, and this immediately cleaned the oiler, but discolouration again commenced at 15,000 miles. In other words, on this particular running under these conditions, it looks as though it would have been advantageous to change the filter every 7,000 miles to get the maximum benefit obtainable. We shall, however, be getting some confirmatory test running under less arduous conditions.

Yours faithfully,

For ROLLS-ROYCE LTD.
