As a result of a broken valve spring, it was necessary to remove a push-rod. It was found that owing to the sticktion of the oil the bottom tappet pulled up with it out of its guide. To replace it, it is necessary to remove one of the cover plates on the side of the cylinder block. To remove these, it is necessary to remove either the distributor or the top elbow on the water pump. The trouble could be easily overcome by having six lips on the inside of each cover plate, either cast integral, or pressed and rivetted on. These would require to be designed so that the bottom tappets come up against the lips before they could lift out of the guides. ---------- Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/IMW.{Ivan M.
