86708 WST To. From E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} E.7/HP.21.6.34. c.c. H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst. By/RD. re Tank Engine. We are sorry to say we have run into some trouble on the Tank engine owing to the solenoid we added to assist the starter motor to engage at extreme angles fouling part of the main drive casing of Vickers portion of the tank, which Vickers have confirmed at our request bytter from the blueprint we sent them. The first solenoid has been tested and does the job quite well, but we are now however instructing a smaller solenoid which is pushed further in to the clutch casing, and with possibly a little more current consumption we are confident that this will do the job quite as satisfactorily. The promised time which was given regarding delivery of this engine expires on Tuesday next, and we should, therefore, be very glad if the instructions for the modified solenoid could be followed up with a view to despatching the original undertaking, or with a view to despatching it before this time, as we understand that Vickers are requiring the engine rather urgently.
