re CHASSIS 79-AL - STERNBERG.

In reply to D/BP3/OG6.9.28., we would say that the Control Brush of the Phantom Dynamo is not adjustable, and in any case, the existing dynamo on this car is not suitable for a continuous output of more than 11 or 12 amperes, and further, we would explain that this output is purposely made to fall to a lower current at high speeds, because if it did not there would be a risk of damaging the accumulator as a result of excessive current during long daylight runs.

In any case, we do not consider that the accumulator is suitable for such a high charging rate as 18 amps, and if such a high charging rate were provided it would undoubtedly shorten the life of the accumulator, and, furthermore, the accumulator would require very frequent topping up with distilled water.

If the A.C.A.M. will kindly explain to us in detail this customers requirements, we will be pleased to consider the best means of meeting them. What we want to know is, whether the car does an abnormal amount of night running and whether this largely consists of town work at slow speeds, or of fast driving on the open road, and also we would like to know what sort of lamps are fitted in order to call for such an abnormal discharge from the battery.
