Dear Mr. Steadman:

See by the April I.A.E. Journal that you are to present a paper before the Derby I.A.E. graduates on April 25, and if your paper is in written form will appreciate at your convenience receiving a copy.

A conclusion which we have arrived at over here is that car designs from an appearance point of view, with the exception of types and shapes of grilles, cannot be altered very much till the mechanical specifications of the machines as a whole are changed, this specification of course including the cooling system. This, of course, applies to American automobiles with the relatively large engines and small radiator frontal areas. Just how this affects the English picture I do not know, and if there is any information to throw light on this subject in your paper, it will be very welcome indeed.

We are doing some work on different types of cooling systems in an endeavor to alleviate this situation, but at the time of writing we are not in a position to make any disclosures. However, for the 1940 cars, believe that there may be some new ideas in cooling systems incorporated.

Kindest personal regards,

Yours sincerely
L. P. Saunders
