E.76. J.D.90. X4617E. 14-8-30 X4617E. Tests on Exide 6RRS-1-3 Battery (174) No 2 cell has failed in this battery after having covered 9262 miles & been on our bench life test 55 months. On being opened up failure was found to be due to poor separation causing the positive plates to grow & short on the negative strap. The negative plates were good. The positive plates were fairly good having lost very little active material, but were weak mechanically. The grid bar apices were turning inwards (now std.) The separators were very poor the # ebonite having eaten practically all away & the wood badly pierced. This cell was replaced by a Exide cell from SU battery. The battery was fully charged & then given a Low Rate Discharge (cont'd?) | ||
