Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}10/KW.6.6.36.

Dear Sr.,

E.R. Hall - Le Mans.

I do not think I shall cross over until Friday night as we did last year, unless some trouble occurs during practice. After all, you will be down there for the Friday morning's practice and can get me on the phone at any time at Duffield.

Quite frankly, the work which is done on the car after it leaves here always exasperates me because most of it seems to be really unnecessary.

We have got the higher axle ratio here but I do not want to mention it to E.R., as I think it would be most unwise to attempt to change over at this juncture. After all, his existing wheel and axle give him a potential speed of 116 M.P.H. down the straight at 4500 revs. If he is over-revving then he will have to take his foot up, but as I see it the maximum distance over which he is likely to be holding 4500 revs. is 4 kilos., which at the speed he is going is something under 1 1/2 minutes before the engine gets a complete easy.

I am rather frightened that E.R. will be so absorbed in putting washers under bolts heads on his body that he will not have time to take the racing car round the course.

Our provisional arrangements are to come across on Friday night, get one of the Chateauroux cars to meet us, and come straight through to Le Mans, as we did last time. I imagine the party will probably consist of five at least. Would you please let me know where you would like to meet us at Le Mans, and whether any advantage is gained by coming through rather more quickly than we did last time.

Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} and I are relying on you to extract from Faroux the necessary passes to enable us to do more or less what we like.

Yours sincerely,
