SECRET. AJS1/12.3.25.

'INDIA'

4-SPEED BOX. X.5310

Referring to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} report (Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}3/LG27.2.25.) that the 2nd. speed still works out.

It is most extraordinary after the number of successful tests carried out while AJS. was in Derby that the old trouble should recur now. For the reason that not only were the tests made that were reported as official, but before every reverse shaft tests the box was warmed up on the 1st. and 2nd. speed for some considerable time with no apparent trouble.

In the case of the official tests which were reported AJS. personally saw these made and the reports upon same were confirmed (by signature) as regards the parts assembled, and the result of test, by the respective superintendents responsible for these two departments.

We are sending herewith LeC.2020., (original to BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} print to R.{Sir Henry Royce}) shewing improved torsionally free 1st. and 2nd. speed pinions.

MADE AT CROXLEY

AJS.
