Will you please arrange for two machines each of 20 HP. and 40/50 HP. (i.e. two of the original 12 asked for) to be arranged in this way, all of these four machines to be handed to us for test because this type of machine will be regarded as more of an experimental nature, though at the same time as a definite proposal for standardisation with the reduced charge switching scheme at present under consideration by Mr.Elliott.

It will be understood that the 10 machines of each size in the first class, are similarly a definite proposal for immediate standardisation, and that the object in having a number of these machines is to provide an opportunity for rapid trials, not only by ourselves who should receive two machines of each kind, but also by the Test Dept. and on London trials cars.

We already have evidence that the machines will be O.K. on the question of magnetic hum and very largely on that of commutation. The only point we cannot be quite certain about is as to whether we may be troubled with some small amount of brush noise. Now that we have been able to experimentally arrive at this stage of being able to specify fairly exactly what we require, we think no time should be lost in progressing this matter. We should appreciate your move in progressing this matter through the necessary stages as rapidly as is expedient.
