(Experimental Dept.) 1263. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/JBDs/M.{Mr Moon / Mr Moore} 13th February, 1937. The S.U. Company, East Works, Bordesley Green Road, Adderley Park, BIRMINGHAM. 8. Dear Sirs, For the attention of Mr. Leslie Kent. We should be much obliged if you would send us a print of the magnet pot on the High Pressure Pump. We regret that the print we had has been mislaid. At the same time, could you give us your opinion on the following suggestion, that the magnet pot on the high pressure pump be made in cast iron like the standard pot and that the available area to carry the increased flux be doubled by having six ribs on the casting between the securing nuts. This we realise will not allow the outside of the pot to be machined and enamelled but as these pumps are for use on the frame where finish is not of the greatest importance some other alternative can be used. We suggest this purely with the idea of giving it a trial owing to the difficulty of obtaining magnet pots at a cost comparable with the present ones in mild steel. It would not be possible to get much more than double the area to carry the increased flux and we should like to know whether you consider this would be sufficient. Yours faithfully, For ROLLS-ROYCE LTD. | ||
