Mr. Robotham, Messrs. Rolls-Royce, Ltd., DERBY. Dear Mr. Robotham, I have delayed replying to your letter of 28th. October in order that I might accumulate most of the information requested therein. TYRE SQUEALING. We are sending this week one of our 6.50/16 Silent moulds to a mould manufacturer in order that the following amendments may be made. (1) The width of the inner circumferential groove will be reduced from .185 to .125 and the width of the second outer rib increased from .44" to .50". (2) The width of the outer circumferential rib will be increased from .40" to .48" and the depth and shape of outer groove altered to remove undercutting and give greater stability to the outer rib. We attach a copy of drawing No. FT.8598 detailing these alterations. We are in communication with the mould manufacturer to get from him a delivery promise for alteration to mould. As soon as we receive this information we shall let you know when we shall furnish you with tyres from the altered mould for road test. WIDE BASE TYRES. We left with you a copy of a letter we received under date of August 16th. from our American associates, the Seiberling Rubber Co., in which was tabulated the testing programme on wide base tyres adopted by the Tyre & Rim Association of America.
