The number of complaints actually received from customers of road shocks was 3. Now it is suggested that all those old type steerings should be changed. We have no idea of the reason of this sudden change.

The recent tests which were carried out in France originated from Sales; it was not our suggestion that cars should be taken to France. The information we had was that Sales could not approve of medium pressure tyres and hydraulic dampers on the Phantom until they had tested them on a car at high speeds on French roads. We raised the point that if they could not approve of those changes it was evident that they could not approve of the changes proposed for existing steerings without tests in France. This was confirmed, therefore the sole responsibility of taking cars to France rests with Sales. In one case the car was chosen by Sales - in the case of the other car, the new design of steering support demanded that the car should have a 'D' steering and the only experimental car available with the 'D' steering was fitted with an open body on a short chassis.

As we were impressed that the sole object of going to France was to test the car at high speeds, in our opinion it was the most suitable car to take.
